Javier Palomarez, USHBC President & CEO, Commends CPUC Approval of Charter-Cox Merger, Calls for Urgent Final Action

WASHINGTON, DC, UNITED STATES, August 13, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ -- The United States Hispanic Business Council (USHBC) urges the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) to urgently approve the $34.5 billion merger between Charter Communications and Cox Communications. Today, the CPUC will meet to vote on the proposed Charter-Cox merger with additional conditions designed to address broadband access, affordability, service, and investment in California communities. CPUC will consider two proposed settlements from Commissioner Matthew Baker and Administrative Law Judge Jamie Ormond when approving the transaction.

Javier Palomarez, USHBC President & CEO, issued the following statement:

“California’s small businesses and consumers have waited long enough. The CPUC has developed a comprehensive record of testimony and data, carefully examined the transaction, and placed two proposals for approval before the Commission. I urgently call on commissioners to approve the Charter-Cox merger today without delay and allow its promised benefits to American small businesses and consumers to move forward.”

Broadband is essential infrastructure for Main Street America. Hispanic-owned businesses increasingly depend on reliable, affordable connectivity to reach customers, process payments, manage employees, adopt new technologies and compete in an increasingly digital economy. Approval of the transaction would support continued private investment in fiber, wireless infrastructure, business services, and next-gen communications technology.

“We have consistently believed that this merger presents an opportunity to combine greater scale and investment with meaningful commitments to the communities Charter and Cox serve. Any further unnecessary delay would postpone the expanded investment, innovation, and connectivity that small businesses and underserved communities urgently need.”

The USHBC urges the CPUC to make a timely decision and approve the Charter-Cox transaction. Timely final approval will provide the certainty needed for Charter and Cox to begin delivering the transaction’s anticipated benefits to consumers, entrepreneurs, and communities nationwide. The USHBC will continue to advocate for policies and private-sector investments that expand broadband access, strengthen America’s small businesses, and ensure Hispanic entrepreneurs can fully participate in the digital economy.
